Versahaul carriers’ compatibility depend on the type of vehicle and motorcycle. If you have concerns with the carrying capacity or the type of your vehicle, you may be able to answer your question by researching these cases we had with other customers.

QUESTION: I’m looking to purchase a motorcycle carrier that will not only hold my bike, but will allow me to pull a boat at the same time. My bike is a Honda Shadow Spirit 750 (cruiser). It weighs around 550 pounds. The boat is 17 1/2 feet weighing around 1,300 lbs. I plan to haul all if this with a 2010 21 foot Coachmen Freelander RV. Do you have a product that will fit my needs?

ANSWER: The VH-Sport RO is the best option.  It has a 600 lb total carrying weight and a towing capacity of 3000 lbs. You will also need a bigger Class IV or Class V hitch that can support the combined weight of your bike (est 536 lbs), VH-Sport RO (111 lbs) and the Tongue weight of your trailer.  Also Coachmen frames sometimes do not extend far enough behind the Camper.  The hitch may not support this weight.  Check the hitch mount carefully.

QUESTION: I have a large pop up camper. I also have a 150cc scooter. Can I attach your carrier to the back of my pop up camper? Give me details on price shipped to central Minnesota.

ANSWER: Versahaul does not recommend attaching the versahaul to the back of a trail.  The trailer will become back loaded and the the trailer will violently fishtail. The VH-55 RO carrier has a 71.5″ long rail and a 500 lbs carrying capacity. This carrier has a towing feature behind it as well. If you have 300 lbs on top of the carrier then you will have 200 lbs of tongue weight remaining behind the carrier to tow. Hope this helps. You can purchase the product from our internet dealers or from a Versahaul dealer in your area http://www.versahaul.com/dealers.php The VH-55 RO MSRP is  $503 with the carrier shipped to you in Minnesota.

QUESTION: Will the VH 55 single bike carrier work on a 2011 Subaru Outback? Need to haul a 400# bike

ANSWER: We do not have any information on the Subaru Outback. I would check with the manufacturer to make sure, but I believe 400 lbs on top of our 100lbs carrier will be a lot to handle for this vehicle. I would be worried that the vehicle’s suspension would compress completely and possibly cause the carrier to scrape on the ground.  http://versahaul.com/vehiclecarrycapacity.php

QUESTION: I have a Suzuki Burgman 400 cc that weighs 500 lbs. The wheelbase is 62.4 inches, width is 32.5 inches, seat height is 28 inches. What carrier do you recommend for a x/c trip in our 2002 Winnebago Adventurer.

ANSWER: The VH-SPORT RO model will be the best carrier for your Burgman scooter. This has a 600 lbs carrying capacity and has a 77.5″ long rail.  Dimensions are listed on http://versahaul.com/vhsportro.php Please visit the above link for vehicle and hitch limitations. Check that your hitch is not recessed behind your motorhome’s bumper or that a ladder or spare tire is in the way. The VH-SPORT can be customized to have a longer 30” main tube to avoid obstacles.  Usually this is not necessary.  http://versahaul.com/vhCustom.php The exhaust from a Diesel Pusher may require the purchase of a longer main tube because the hot exhaust may damage the paint of the tie-down tube.

QUESTION: I have a triumph scrambler and a 2012 Toyota tundra crewmax will that work with the sport model? Thanks

ANSWER: Based on the information given I recommend the VH-SPORT RO carrier. If the truck has air bags or air ride then that would be even better. Otherwise you might see the rear suspension of your vehicle compress. Your vehicle without can have 316 lbs motorcycle on top of the carrier and your vehicle will sit level. Additional, weight will gradually compress you suspension.  The Triumph Scrambler weight 451 lbs so this will exceed the estimated carrying capacity for your suspension for a level vehicle.

QUESTION: I have a 2009 F150 supercrew with a 5.4 l engine and trailer pkg. Can I haul two motorcycles with a combined weight of 550 lbs and pull a 2900 lbs travel trailer? Would I be better off using a one bike hauler and putting the other in the bed. The bed is 5.5 ft.

ANSWER: Our double motorcycle carrier does not have a towing feature at all. We have 2 single models that have towing features. One is the VH-55 RO that has a 500 lbs carrying capacity and the VH-SPORT Ro that has a 600lbs carrying capacity. You will not want to exceed the carrying capacity of the carrier. If your bike weighs 300 lbs and you purchase the VH-55 RO then you would have 200lbs of tongue weight remaining behind the carrier for your trailer.

QUESTION: I am looking at your carry capacity chart, but don’t see anything listed for Mitsubishi? Any idea what the recommended ride level or capacity would be for a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport 2WD SE (4 cylinder) with you lightest carrier?

ANSWER: We estimate that the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport can hold approximately 180 lbs on top of a VH-55 carrier and your vehicle will still sit level. More weight can be added, but the additional weight added will cause the vehicles suspension to begin to compress. REPLY: …Thanks for the info. I am wondering how you get those numbers? I am now looking at a 2011 Kia sportage sx Turbo.  Which your site doesn’t show info for 2011. Which is why I was asking how you guys calculate the numbers. ANSWER REPLY: …Try looking up the models under a different year. As for the Kia there is one listed for the 2010 not the turbo edition, but it has a carrying capacity of approximately 237 lbs on top of the VH-55 carrier. To get these number we had to look up many different specs on the vehicle and type them into a formula that was set up for the different carriers. ANSWER: The 2 models that have the towing feature are: The VH-55 RO which has a 500 lbs carrying capacity and 71.5″ long rail and can flat tow up to 3,000 lbs. The rail width is 6.3″. The VH-SPORT RO which has a 600lbs carrying capacity and has a longer 77.5″ long rail and also a longer ramp. This carrier also has a 3,000 lbs flat towing capacity. The rail width is 7.8″.
